Details: I edited this photograph in GIMP, basically just blacking out much of the mother-son duo and then inserting a gradient fill for the background (and color inverting the gradient fill to get it leading to white instead of black).
But, even if you're not interested in these weird kinds of pictures, hehe, the article is about steps to take when actually photographing--not about random editing effects. :)
